Free webinar: ‘Arming Fisheries Managers with Open Access Vessel Information and Insights to Eliminate Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Fishing'

Public webinar: Friday, 5 July 2024 4-5pm UTC+3

Webinar duration: 45 minutes + 15 minutes Q&As

It is our pleasure to share details of an informational webinar, ‘Arming Fisheries Managers with Open Access Vessel Information and Insights to Eliminate Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Fishing’ hosted in partnership by TMT and Global Fishing Watch.

The event will take place on Friday, 5 July at 4-5 PM (UTC+3).

Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is an unresolved and internationally pervasive challenge, and is estimated to cost the world economy over USD 20 billion annually.

IUU fishing undermines effective fisheries management, harms ocean ecosystems, and threatens food security. It is closely associated with labour and human rights abuses including modern slavery.

Vessel Viewer is a free and open access vessel history and insights tool developed in partnership between Global Fishing Watch and TMT.

The tool consolidates vessel registries information, satellite data and advanced analysis, enabling anyone with an internet connection to instantly search and access identity and activity information of more than 65,000 commercial fishing vessels, both those with - and without - automatic identification systems (AIS).

Join us on this webinar as we introduce core features of Vessel Viewer and its applications. Hear from fisheries managers from Ghana, Kenya and the Joint Analytical Cell utilising Vessel Viewer to support fisheries port controls, and complement monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) operations that are critical to eliminating IUU fishing.

If you are unable to attend the live webinar then do sign up anyway and we’ll send you the recording after the event.

We look forward to seeing you on the webinar!
